U16/U18 OHL Draft

Having spent the last 15 years training minor hockey players, I've observed several consistent factors related to the OHL Draft. This includes the types of players selected and the skills they possess.

Typically, around 6-8 players from the London area are drafted each year within each age group. This leads to the question: how does a player become one of those selected?

From my perspective, the players who are consistently picked possess exceptional natural talent. For those who may not consider themselves the most naturally gifted, the key is in their ability to focus on the most impactful aspects of development. It's about following the right processes to achieve optimal results.

The players who tend to get drafted consistently display strong athleticism, exceptional on-ice intelligence, and a high level of competitiveness. These three attributes seem to be the strongest indicators of future success. So, how do we effectively refine these crucial skills?

In my experience, it comes down to a dedicated process of focusing on the elements that truly drive results. This involves fully committing to a training plan that sharpens and maintains these key skills.

I strongly believe that the way a player chooses to spend their time is the biggest differentiating factor. It’s understanding the effective actions versus those that interfere with progress that will ultimately determine a player's trajectory.

If you ever feel unsure about your next steps, I'm confident that within one year, I can demonstrate the impact of a well-defined process. The results will be evident. By refining your approach, you can achieve better outcomes with less time and expense.

I believe the most important distinction in developing as a player is to focus on using only one system. This involves exclusively using the right methods and avoiding any ice time that does not support the overall development plan. To me, that is the only way to maximize development.

I'd be happy to schedule a brief 10-minute call to discuss this further. I'm interested in learning more about your players current training methods and what their goals are for the future.

I'm confident I can offer some helpful guidance to increase their progress. It's truly remarkable to see how much a player can develop with focused training. I'd love to show you what can be achieved in a year, or even within six months.

Consistency with the right plan is what drives results. The game demands sharp skills in all areas, and I believe there's only one way to maintain that level.
